How to Clean and Care for Teak Patio Furniture

Teak outdoor furniture is the most superior quality outdoor furniture in the world. Outdoor teak furniture is also very easy to maintain. Teak wood has unique properties which make it perfect for use outdoors. Teak garden furniture takes very little maintenance to last decades.

Clean up your outdoor teak furniture sometimes to prevent the collection of dust. The easiest is to use a garden hose without high pressure to rinse the dust and dirt away. Afterwards, using a soft bristled brush, scrub the surface of the wood delicately with a solution of warm water, detergent, and a few tablespoons of bleach. Then rinse once more with pure water. Pat the surface dry using a towel or large rag afterwards.

Outdoor teak furniture which is left outdoors will naturally begin to eventually change color from the golden tone of fresh wood to a silver gray. This process of wood becoming gray patina is natural and merely cosmetic. It does not affect the durability of your teak outdoor furniture.

Some folks like the golden color of fresh teak furniture and use teak oil to try to preserve this tone. However, teak oil is a bad idea because it must be retreated every few from the time you begin using it. Oils can also improve the change for mildew to grow. It is better to treat with teak sealer once a year after cleaning your teak garden furniture to try to maintain the honey color.

Dark stains including red wine can be removed with a light sanding of the outer layer of the teak wood. Start with a grade medium paper and after that end with a fine grade sandpaper to get the surface of the teak nice and smooth. Sanding is also a method to bring out the golden coloring of teak wood as you expose a new layer of wood which is permeated with the oil of the wood.

Outdoor teak furniture will last decades with not so much maintenance from you. Because it will last such a long time, teak is better than other kinds of hardwood. You will rest in knowing that a teak bench you buy now will be enjoyed by your children.
